Technical Illustrating

No matter how well a procedure is written it is always clearer when there are graphics available to support it. When dealing with complex systems technical illustrations provide an easy way to understand what is being discussed in the text. When providing documentation in an electronic format the illustrations can be animated or hyperlinked to provide even more information.

Photographs are an acceptable low-cost solution to providing illustrations. However, most photographs suffer from lighting issues, difficulty in positioning to show the items clearly, and may suffer from providing too much information. Illustrations don’t suffer from lighting issues, can be drawn from any angle, and can show just the items desired eliminating any confusion.
